Home Diaries: How to add color to your Living Room

I love changing my decor regularly, but I usually play it safe and only change it up in my bedroom and bathroom. I do change my duvets regularly..and I am always switching up my bathroom accessories, but I only change my living room decor once or twice a year..and that is usually around the holidays. I guess it is just easy to switch up the decor seasonally with some soft throws and warm colored accents and you are done..but summer time decor can be a little challenging. How do you decorate without throws and candles?? I say add colour..and a lot of it! I generally keep this area fairly neutral and it works with a toddler in the house, but this is such an easy way to add some pop of colour that you don't even have to think about commitment issues. I usually have these velvet cushions in our guest room where they pop against everything white..but one evening I decided to change things up. I wanted to add some life to a dark gloomy living space (because let's face it..our summer has been nothing but dark and gloomy this year) and all I did was grab all the cushions from the guestroom and everything else colorful in the house and.. VOILA! It took me less than 15 minutes to spruce up the space! I have added links to the all the accessories I used. The best part is that because it is all accessories, you can pack everything up just as quickly when you are done with the look..or in my case when my little monster wanted to take over the living room.

HIGHLIGHTS - IDS TORONTO 2015

I had the pleasure to go to the Interior Deisgn Show in Toronto this past weekend. For a design enthusiast this show full of inspiration. Great decor and design ideas, as well as local vendors that provide great products..IDS is the place to be for anyone who is looking to renovate their space with newest trends and personally meet the designers. Below are some of the highlights from the show, I took A LOT of pics, so please bare with me as I walk you through the chaos.

Princess Margaret Showhome in Oakville

This past weekend I had the privilege too see the Princess Margret showroom in Oakville and meet with the designer Brian Glucktein. It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Mr. Gluckstein, so having the opportunity to view one of his master pieces was a dream come true!

Every year Princess Margret Cancer Center holds sweepstakes, giving away luxury homes, downtown penthouse,  Ferrari and much more! This home being the largest prize, one lucky winner can pack their bags and move into this amazing estate by December! This home is valued at $3,995,000 and is nothing short of a luxurious oasis in the middle of one of the most coveted neighborhoods in Ontario. It is 6,5000 square foot with three floors of living space.

The tickets are still on sale, so please go to this LINK and buy one today! Just imagine living in this gorgeous home..

Now, I did make one mistake, I forgot to take my wide-angle lens with me. Which means not being able to capture a full view of the rooms as they are seen in person. I have attached a link to the official site where you can view the full Gallery. There are a few things I couldn't capture such a various bathrooms and powder rooms (there are 6 in total in the house!) and the Kitchen. Please see the link above. So, let's begin to the fun part! I share with you the most beautiful and livable space I have ever seen!

Gray tiles in herringbone pattern (my fave!) on the floor in the foyer, against the bright living room.

The wallpaper seen above is actually hand-embroidered silk! I personally love the chandelier with traditional and modern elements combined seamlessly.

The living room is mostly white/cream with the exception of the accent wall in the back. Light green colour used as accents on cushions which not only adds color but also warmth.

HOME DECOR: BLACK AND GOLD INSPIRATION

Even though we have summer like weather, with the arrival of September we tend to start preparing for fall. Though we have had a short summer, I am starting to get a bit excited for fall! I love it simply because it never disappoints! If it is mild, great..if it's cold then well it's fall! Along with the low expectations I love the coziness of it, the days are short but not too short (unlike Dec!), but it is nice to wear layers and sit by the fireplace.
So let's ignore the summery weather outside for a second and dream of a glamorous fall. I usually don't shop with a theme in mind, but rather discover a theme among the things I have around, and I noticed I am kind of crazy about Gold and Black!
I gathered few things around the house to show easy it is pull a theme together without having to buy everything new.

Black and gold home decor inspiration ideas

Fan- I bought from Venice a few years ago, I fell in love with the lace detail
Gold Shells - spray painted gold shells I picked up from the beach in Costa Rica
Gold Doily- an ordinary paper doily spray painted gold by yours truly
Black Rocks- another DIY by moi (posted last week)
Ampersand - a recent purchase from Chapters-Indigo (I love the simplicity of it)
Chair print- I actually purchased this print as a set of 4 from "Paris in Color" Etsy shop a few months ago. I have yet to frame them but I just love how it ties in my love for Black, Gold & Paris

It is not that hard to bring a theme together. Chances are if you love a particular color or style you will find a few things at home already, and rest can be fixed with a spray can! And the best part of spraying anything is that you can always change it another color if you get tired of it.

Sealeo shop

I recently changed my phone and I was looking for a simple white cover to go with it. I wanted simple but unique, which seems to be impossible to find it seems! Until I stumbled upon this site through Instagram, and the wait was over! I immediately fell in love with the "Home of Coco" cover, and of course the rest of the site. They have such beautiful minimalist posters, I can't even decide which one want. I gathered most of them below to show how amazing they are! They cover fashion, love, meditation, and occasional profanity ;). Enjoy!
