RENO DIARIES (PHASE 1): DEMO TIME!

Soo..it has begun! These pictures were taken last month, but with pregnancy it can be hard to sit down and concentrate at times..I don't know how some bloggers do it with kids! Anywayy..so even though I put together the pictures, I wasn't able to write up anything. So here's the update...a lot has changed even in a month. I still have 7 more weeks to go before the baby comes, and most of the major work should be done by then and I will TRY my best to blog the process as we go.
I can't believe this is the same house...we have kept all the doors and trim and we will try to reuse as much of the original details as possible; but sometimes things do get damaged during the demo process...so fingers crossed we should be able to replicate most of the original work.

This is the living room wall and foyer. We are basically keeping the windows that are visible on the right, because they are just so pretty! Obviously the whole place needed to be insulated (as you can see on the right, there is basically no insulation on these walls, just some plaster and brick!). So everything is stripped and will be re-insulted. We do want to maximize storage in this place, because it's not that big and we want to use every little corner we can. We will put some pull out drawers under the stairs for shoes, etc because it essentially dead space so why not utilize it..but more on that later.

Now to the dining/kitchen..this partition wall is coming down..actually it has this week! I can't wait to show you guys..the whole space looks much more open. The back window visible on the left is being taken out right now to be converted into a door that would open into the backyard. That will allow so much more lighting once this area is fully converted into a fully open concept space.

This is the view from the living room. Again, we are trying to salvage the pocket doors. The room beyond the pocket doors will be the new kitchen. The reason we are keeping the pocket doors is that I like the option of closing the doors between the kitchen and the living room when some privacy is needed, and leave it open otherwise.

The study..which does not exist right now! We had to demo the whole structure because it was all made of wood (by the looks of it..probably in the 50s). This will be the new office for the hubby and I will steal some space for blogging of course. We are adding windows all around so it will be a room filled with natural light all day long..fantastic for blog pictures right!

This is what our master looked like last month. Again, everything is taken out, even the diving walls are gone now so we can see it is an open space. Another thing we noticed after the ceiling was taken out was how high the roof actually is. Currently on the right it is about 8 feet high, but once it was taken down the full ceiling height was visible. So of course we came up with an idea to maximize the bedroom height..I can't wait to share the plans very soon!
