DIY: GOLD RIM AGATE COASTERS

I have been on a hunt for Pink Agate coasters for almost 2 years. I have found them online, but a set of 4 can cost up to $60!, I am sorry but for a set of coasters..I am not sure if it is worth spending that kind of money. So, I waited..and waited..until one day I walked in the Royal Ontario Museum store and found myself in Agate heaven! There were 3 different colours (blue, pink and purple) to choose from, and in all different sizes. Best of all, they were individually priced so you can buy as many as you like! I picked up 4 of the pink ones, of course. As pretty as they were, I did need to spruce them up a bit. So I pulled out my handy Martha Stewart gold metallic paints, same ones I used in the Rocks DIY and gave them a little makeover.

All you need is some paint and a brush really, also keep some paper towels handy to clean up any mistakes. The colours are water based, so they are easy to remove.

As you can see in the picture above that the two gold colours are slightly different. The lighter shade is called "Yellow Gold" and the darker one is "Gold". I did 2 coats of the darker one, once dried, I topped it off with lighter, more sparkly yellow gold.

It is best to do one coat at a time, and move on to the next coaster..which gives them time to dry. Once all the coats are done, remove any mistakes and clean up the edges with a cotton bud and nail-polish remover.
