VINTAGE MEETS MID-CENTURY

Chairish is an exclusive, curator approved, online marketplace for vintage and used furniture. They have a brand new collections of rugs with various patterns and color to suit any style! A rug can be a true and unexpected statement piece in a room. To show you how to incorporate color using a fabulous rug I give you my take on a room using a vintage Turkish rug in grass-green! Green has to be my favorite color when it comes to home accessories. When I have numerous color choices, I always opt for green. It is fresh, it is calming, and I feel it brings a little bit of nature in without being too literal.  I chose this fun Green rug out of numerous bold colors, found HERE, and created this style-board using antique pieces from Chairish with a mix of new modern pieces.

1. starburst chandelier // 2. mid-century sofa // 3. rustic sculpture // 4. contemporary vases // 5. hand-painted vintage mirror // 6. grass-green turkish rug // 7. vintage (1960s) decanter set // 8. geometric gold coffee table // 9. antique opera lorgnette// 10. velvet ottoman // 11. simple seating // 12. geometric mirror set // 13. bar cart //14. sun-burst mirror

When dealing with bold colors, it is important to keep everything else fairly neutral. I find green goes really well with warm and cold metallics. Gold is no brainer when pairing with green and it is right on trend right now! I also chose a charcoal gray mid-century couch to off set the green carpet to ground the room. Dark accessories also help to pull the look together. I used a nail sculpture as art to pull gold and gray together, and black vases add a modern vibe while giving a nod to the mid century furniture. How gorgeous is the green decanter set from the 60s!
I also loved the deep colors of the blue ottoman, and accessorized with antique Opera lorgnette, to add more subtle punches of color without overwhelming the space.
Mirrors are the easiest way to add interest to walls, and I chose 3 different designs, they are all either antique, inspired by the mid-century, and go beautifully with the green rug. Keeping the coffee table and side table simple really allows the accessories to shine.
Last but not the least, my favorite chandelier of all time. Gold starburst is a classic design, which adds function and interest to the ceiling. Think of lighting as the final touch of bling to complete the look.

Mud Hut Chic

I actually blogged about this entry a while ago in my previous blog, which is no longer updated. But this has to be my most popular post from the blog that I figured I should revisit. I stumbled upon these cool "mud houses" in India, they are so chic and stylish yet so traditional..more Indian inspiration can be found on an Indian Summer blog!

I love the rustic look of these houses, which can still be found in rural villages of India. They are still so beautifully decorated. Even though it would be unrealistic and impossible to live in something like this in Canada, but I wouldn't mind taking some rustic elements from this and recreating an Indian oasis.

I love the painted entry way, and motif over the headboard, and you don't have to ben an artist to pull this one off!

Rustic furniture against white backdrop, so simple and chic

This reminds me more of Portugal than India, but nonetheless, it is about the warm fuzzy feelings we get when we see such warm colours and blue skies, can only dream of that in these long Canadian winters.

Now this is a little more intricate, the design over the headboard is made to place small oil lamps, called Diyas, can be seen almost everywhere during the Diwali festival. But back in the day they were the only source of light, which is why special nooks were created in each room and outside each door to place the Diyas.

There is nothing minimalist about this hut, and most Indian inspired things are not. Indian decor is filled with colour, texture, carvings, embroidery, you name it. But you can pick one or two things and incorporate into you home.

Home Decor: Juju Love

So lalely, and by that I mean the last two years, I have been OBSESSED with Juju headdresses. I didn't even know what they were called until recently, so naturally hunting one down was a challenge. But I have been on a mission to find a one regardless!
Well.. I finally found one! I was watching Steven and Chris the other day, my absolute fave decor/life style show. I have been watching these guys since their "Designer Guys" days and love their taste, so I PVR their show daily and watch em every night! It was just another decor segment and next thing I see is a big Juju Headdresss right in the middle of it all! So naturally I went on their website and found the source and voila! I am a proud owner of a Juju headdress!

So I took it to Pinterest to get some ideas in terms of how to incorporate it in my home decor. My decor is minimalist, simple furniture pieces with accents and decor accessories from around the world that I collected from my travels. So the Juju would fit right in with my space! I originally planned on hanging it above my bed but turns out it's too big and overpowers the whole wall. I have tired hanging it in the family room (it has higher ceilings) and so it seems to work better there. But here are few ideas to get me experimenting.

Best part is they are so versatile, you don't have to have "Global Chic" decor to make it work, they work in Modern, traditional, eclectic, all sorts of interiors. I can see why they are gaining such popularity.

I love how they are so neutral and add so much texture to the space.

This is pretty close to my colour, I picked cream because I am bit of commitment-phobe, and I tend to change my mind often (mostly because I love everything and I can't just have one theme) and since these guys are a little pricey you want something you can move around the house without having to worry if it will go with the decor.

Best of all they come in soo many colours!
