Hi Guys! As promised I am trying to be more regular with my blog posts. Today I want to share with you this fun decor project. You guys might have seen pictures of "Lassi Cups" floating around Pinterest; but if you haven't, let me give you a little background. Lassi is an Indian beverage of yogurt or buttermilk, water, and spices. A Lassi cup, literally means a cup or metal tumbler for Buttermilk. It is found in the Punjab region of India, where agriculture is the main source of income for most people. With farming you get cattle; so people in Punjab would (and still do in rural areas) milk their own cows, make their own butter (so good!!!) and of course make their own buttermilk for those hot summer afternoons. Temps can rise up to 45-50 deg Celsius! Imagine having a cold glass of homemade buttermilk to help you cool down. Milk being so prominent in the Punjabi diet, special Lassi cups are made just for this purpose. Decorated with beautiful floral motifs, they were traditionally made with brass or copper, but nowadays steel tumblers can be found easily.
After seeing these cups pop up all over Pinterest, I had to get some of my own! My decor style is travel inspired, whenever I go somewhere I always bring something for the home. I usually stay away from the colorful souvenirs and bring home more neutral looking items, so they work well with each other. My dad recently went to India and of course instead of asking him to bring me pretty Sarees, I ask for Lassi cups! He found some new and some vintage pieces for me!
As soon as I got my hands on these babies, I got busy decorating my home with them. They make the most beautiful vases, and are fully functional if I ever want to have Lassi of course. Let me tell you guys, I am so thrilled with how it all turned out. I love how delicate peonies look against gold and silver metallics. Here are some of the pics from my weekend, I hope you like them!
(I have found an
Etsy shop where you can buy these Lassi cups!)
